These are the criteria for good domain name:
a. A good name is usually very short and memorable.
Any.com is a good name. Short names are easier to remember by visitors, and that means that they can easily type that into the browser, and of course this means more traffic to website. Short are pretty expensive to acquire. High premium is placed on single letter word than on two or three-letter word names.
b. It must be easy to pronounce and spell.
One should be able to spell and write the name is pronounce, “a kind of radio test” A name like Cup.com, does not need to be pronounced twice for cognition
c.Descriptive and Common/popular and catchy:
Good names must be formed from everyday word, from what people look daily as they search for their needs. Digitalcamera.com, Funnyjokes.com are good names in this regard.
d. Must have some commercial meaning or relevant to a field.
A name like Mymummysoup.com has no relevance to a sector. But a name like Tfinance.com can easily make good name for companies dealing on finance.
e. Dot Com: A good name is also rated based on the extension. Dot com names are usually better than Dot Net’s, and so on. I am not saying that one cannot register or use Dot Anything but….
f. Generally should contain no number, hyphen or prefixes or suffixes.
But experience today shows that names without them are very difficult to get. One thing about names with hyphen or prefixes or suffixes is that once they are forgotten by a visitor, one looses him to one’s competitor. Check out this. If one’s site name is good-camera.com. hearing the name, a visitor may type into the browser, goodcamera.com and end up patronizing one’s competitor.
g. A Good already receives traffic.
When I was trying to get a domain name for dog related business. I discovered that the “ dog training” has high traffic already in most search engines. I decided to add a prefix “Y” to create a difference. Surprisingly, it wasn’t up to 14 days, I started receiving offers from those interested in that name. good name must also be naturally a high traffic word.
h. It must also be generic.
Do not register a well known registered name. it is against the law to do so. rather get a more generic name for your business.
Now that you have known how to judge a good name. let us now briefly guide you on how to register your first domain name. But before that, I want announce a bad news ahead of time.
